I written a memoir Nice, which I am currently in pursuit of getting published. First, I have to find an agent, but that's another story. My synopsis...

Stranded in extreme South Jersey, where inhabitants are scarce and muskrats run rampant, I spend the early 1990’s commuting to college and desperately trying to convince myself that my existence is not cursed…despite the fact that the Space Shuttle Challenger did blow up on my thirteenth birthday. When my hot new man Andy dies, the fight feels pointless. Who can blame the next in line, Neil, for escaping north to the glamorous city of Trenton? Will he place a restraining order against my obsessive best friend Vanessa like a previous boyfriend of mine had? I certainly should! Is the geographical (…and emotional) distance between us far enough to prevent him from falling into my inauspicious web? No. Unfortunately, it’s not.

The first five chapters are posted on my website Solitary Confinement. http://www.lonnacottrell.com/?cat=4

I have also a tale about liquor consumption and self-betrayal called Take a Left. At this moment only Part I is up. http://www.lonnacottrell.com/?p=1296. The last and final section Part II will be up momentarily. Writing=passion=no sleep=happiness. Enjoy.

I'd love to read an excerpt. I love real life and the people who feel the need to tell their stories like Sedaris, Augusten Burroughs, and Haven Kimmel. Not only had the Challenger explode on my 13th birthday, my only daughter was born on Sept. 11 2000. I'm thankful that she wasn't born a year later. That would have really sucked. But we kid around about the birthday curse and she has to live with the "OH" response after she tells someone the day she was born. Life is just sick and funny...and I wouldn't change a single thing.
